Research centre & auditorium

The Xavier Centre of Historical Research at Alto Porvorim is a Jesuit-run institute founded in 1977 to study the history of Goa and the Indo-Portuguese world. Its library is used by scholars from across the world, and the campus has an auditorium, a gallery and a small museum. For the public its main draw is the History Hour, a long-running series of talks in which historians, writers and researchers present their wo

History Hour talks are free and start in the early evening; arrive ten minutes early for a seat. The centre is a short walk from the highway bus stop at Alto Porvorim. The library is for registered researchers; write ahead if you want to consult it.
