Things to do in Panaji (Panjim)

Panaji, still Panjim to most Goans, is the state capital and the centre of Goa's cultural calendar. The compact old centre sits on the south bank of the Mandovi: the white Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception above the Municipal Garden, 18th June Road for shopping, the Institute Menezes Braganza and Azad Maidan for talks and exhibitions, and Patto for the State Central Library and the Kadamba bus stand. Offshore casinos board from jetties along Dayanand Bandodkar Marg. IFFI in November, the Serendipity Arts Festival in December and the Carnival and Shigmo float parades all run through these streets. Most of the centre is walkable.
