About Krishnadas Shama Goa State Central Library
The Krishnadas Shama Goa State Central Library traces its origins to the public library the Portuguese founded in 1832, which makes it one of the oldest public libraries in India. Since 2011 it has occupied a six-floor building at Patto designed by architect Gerard da Cunha, a short walk from the Kadamba bus stand. Besides its lending, reference, rare-book and children's sections, the building has an auditorium and a conference hall, and the library hosts exhibitions, workshops, author talks and poetry gatherings through the year. It is open daily from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. For visitors it is one of the few free, air-conditioned places in Panaji to spend a monsoon or mid-afternoon hour.
