About Institute Menezes Braganza
The Institute Menezes Braganza is Panaji's oldest cultural institution, founded on 24 November 1871 as the Instituto Vasco da Gama and later renamed after the Goan journalist Luís de Menezes Bragança. The Government of Goa took it over in 1997. It occupies a mid-19th-century colonial building in the centre of the city, and its entrance foyer is lined with five large blue-and-white azulejo panels painted by Jorge Colaço in Lisbon in 1935–36, showing scenes from Os Lusíadas. The main hall, with a coffered ceiling and tall shuttered windows, is a favourite room for lectures, book releases, literary meets, small concerts and exhibitions connected with Goa's languages and arts.
