About Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir

Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir is the government auditorium in Ponda, the taluka long regarded as the heartland of Goan theatre and classical music. It is the usual home of Kala Academy's Konkani Drama Competition: the 51st edition runs here from 15 October to 10 November 2026, with a play at 7 pm and a ₹100 pass sold at the venue. Through the rest of the year the hall stages Marathi and Konkani plays, music programmes, school and college events and state cultural festivals, and Ponda's Shigmo parade passes through the town each spring. Most visitors come from Panaji or Margao for an evening and drive back, since buses thin out after about 8 pm.
