Kala Academy is Goa's state academy for music, dance and drama, set up in 1970 and housed since 1983 in a riverside complex at Campal designed by Charles Correa. It holds the Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Mandir, an open-air amphitheatre, a Black Box and teaching schools, and it runs the state's tiatr and Konkani drama competitions and the Kesarbai Kerkar music festival. Check the hall on your ticket. As of July 2026 the main auditorium was due to close for repairs while the Black Box stayed in use, and some Kala Academy programmes have moved to other venues. Kala Academy's 51st Konkani Drama Competition runs from 15 October to 10 November 2026 at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir in Ponda, not at Campal. Parking on Dayanand Bandodkar Marg fills quickly during IFFI and Serendipity. Walk along the riverside promenade from the city centre or take a city bus.
