Things to do in Margao (Madgaon)

Margao, or Madgaon, is the commercial capital of South Goa and the main town of Salcete. Life centres on the Municipal Garden, the covered New Market and Gandhi Market, and the Largo de Igreja, where the baroque Holy Spirit Church of 1675 faces a square of old mansions. Lohia Maidan hosts public meetings and cultural programmes, and the Carnival and Shigmo parades run through the centre. Margao is a stronghold of tiatr, the Konkani musical theatre, with shows most weekends in season. Madgaon Junction is Goa's biggest railway station, and the Kadamba bus stand has shuttles to Panaji and Vasco and local buses to Colva, Benaulim and Canacona.
