About Reis Magos Fort
Reis Magos Fort stands on the north bank of the Mandovi, directly across the river from Panaji. The Portuguese built it in 1551 to guard the narrowest point of the estuary, and it later served as a jail. A restoration that began in 2008, supported by the Helen Hamlyn Trust and INTACH and led by architect Gerard da Cunha, turned it into a cultural centre with galleries, including a display of Mario Miranda's drawings, and ramparts that look out over the river and the capital. The fort is used for exhibitions, tourism events and private functions. The Reis Magos church at its foot celebrates the Feast of the Three Kings on 6 January.
