Weekend Activities for Kids in Goa: A Family Guide (2026–27)
Updated 2026-10-12 · 7 min read · by the goa2go team
The best family days in Goa mix one indoor stop, one hands-on activity and a beach at the cool end of the day. The dependable choices are the Goa Science Centre and Planetarium at Miramar (₹50), the Naval Aviation Museum near Dabolim airport (₹100 for adults, ₹50 for children) and the Museum of Goa in Pilerne, with workshops and festival parades to fill the rest. This guide covers what each costs, when it is closed and how to fit them into a weekend. For events on right now, see our kids and family events page.
Prices and timings are those published by the venues in October 2026.

Indoors, for the hot hours
Goa Science Centre and Planetarium, Miramar
The Goa Science Centre has been Panaji’s children’s attraction since 2001. There are hands-on galleries, an outdoor science park, a planetarium and a 3D theatre, and two hours is about right. It is open from 9:30 am to 6 pm, with last entry at 5:30 pm, and closes only on Holi and Diwali, which in 2026 means Sunday 8 November. Entry is ₹50; add the planetarium (₹50) and the 3D show (₹40), or buy the ₹120 combined ticket. Miramar beach is across the road for afterwards.
Naval Aviation Museum, near Dabolim
Children who like aircraft will want an hour here. Retired naval planes and helicopters stand in an open park, and an indoor gallery has engines, uniforms and models. Entry is ₹100 for adults and ₹50 for children, and it is closed on Mondays. The museum publishes slightly different closing times in different places, so arrive by 4 pm. It is a few minutes from Dabolim airport, which makes it a good stop before an evening flight, and Bogmalo beach is just down the road.
Museum of Goa, Pilerne
The Museum of Goa is contemporary art with enough colour and scale to hold a child’s attention, plus a sculpture garden and a café. It runs children’s sessions and workshops; check what is on before you go. Tickets are ₹300 for adults and ₹200 for children and youth, under-fives are free, and it is closed on Mondays. Pilerne has no beach-road buses, so come by taxi or scooter.
The State Central Library, Panaji
Free, air-conditioned and next to the Panaji bus stand, the State Central Library has a children’s section and regular exhibitions. It is the easiest rainy-day hour in the capital.
The old Aguada jail, Sinquerim
Older children do well at the Aguad Port & Jail Complex, where the cells and barracks of the former central jail now hold an interactive museum about Goa’s history. Guided walks are available. Tickets are sold on the official website; we could not verify current prices.
Outdoors
The beach, safely
Goa’s lifeguards mark safe swimming zones with red-and-yellow flags. Swim only between them, and stay out of the water from sunset to 7 am. For small children, pick a wide, gently shelving beach with lifeguard towers: Benaulim, Majorda and Cavelossim in the south and Mandrem and Ashwem in the north are easier than rocky Anjuna or crowded Baga. Miramar is for sandcastles and football only, because of the river currents.
Go before 10 am or after 4 pm. Alcohol and vehicles are banned on the sand, so the beach itself is calmer than the roads behind it.
Bondla
Bondla, in the hills beyond Ponda, is a 7.98 sq km sanctuary with a small zoo, a deer safari park, gardens and a nature education centre. The Forest Department lists elephant, leopard, sloth bear, gaur, sambar and crocodiles among the animals. The zoo is closed on Mondays. It is a long drive from the beaches, so combine it with a temple or a spice plantation near Ponda.
A ferry to Divar
Children tend to enjoy the ferry more than the destination. Foot passengers ride free from the Old Goa jetty to Divar island, a ten-minute crossing, and you can pair it with the churches of Old Goa.
Forts for climbers
Chapora Fort above Vagator is a short scramble with a big view, best for children over seven who can manage loose stone. Reis Magos, opposite Panaji, has proper paths and a gallery of Mario Miranda’s cartoons that children respond to.
Turtles, from a distance
Olive ridley turtles nest in winter on protected stretches of Morjim in the north and Agonda and Galgibaga in the south. Nests are fenced and guarded. Explain to children that they can look at the enclosure, not touch it, and that torches and flash are not allowed on the beach at night.
Hands-on workshops
- Pottery at Carpe Diem, Majorda. Courses run on Saturdays from 4 to 6 pm at this arts centre in a restored house, which also has exhibitions and a café. It is open Wednesday to Sunday.
- Azulejo tile painting, Panaji. Soul Travelling’s session on Goa’s hand-painted tiles starts at 11 am and lasts two and a half hours, at ₹2,499 plus GST per person.
- Bread-making in South Goa. The same operator’s Life of Pao session, on the bread Goans eat every day, starts at 2 pm and costs ₹1,599.
- Pop-ups at Artjuna, Anjuna. The garden café on Market Road hosts craft markets, workshops and children’s activities and is open from 7 am to 10:30 pm.
New workshops are added every week in season; see workshops in Goa and kids’ events.
Shows, films and football
Children’s cinema. The Bulbul Children’s International Film Festival, organised by the state’s Department of Information and Publicity, runs from 12 to 16 October 2026 at Ravindra Bhavan in Margao, with free entry.
IFFI’s open-air screenings. During the International Film Festival of India, from 20 to 28 November 2026, films are shown in the open at Miramar Beach and other sites without a pass. Bring a mat.
A football match. FC Goa play at the Nehru Stadium in Fatorda through the season, and evening matches are a good first stadium experience. For something smaller, Goa Professional League games at Duler Stadium in Mapusa are cheap or free.
Festivals children remember
| Festival | Dates | What children see |
|---|---|---|
| Narkasur night | Saturday 7 November 2026 | Giant demon effigies paraded through town; burnt before dawn |
| Christmas | From mid-December | Cribs, star lanterns, sweets and carols in every village |
| Carnival | 6–9 February 2027 | Float parades led by King Momo in Panaji, Margao, Vasco and Mapusa |
| Shigmo | Around 21–22 March 2027 | Drummers, folk dancers and illuminated floats after dark |
Carnival’s day-by-town parade schedule had not been announced when we checked in October 2026; it is on our Carnival page when it is. For parades, stand near the start of the route with small children. The end of the route is louder, later and more crowded.
Two sample weekends
North Goa. Saturday: Museum of Goa in the morning, lunch at its café, the Aguada jail complex after 4 pm and sunset on Candolim beach. Sunday: Goa Science Centre at 10 am, a late lunch in Panaji and the Miramar promenade until dark.
South Goa. Saturday: Naval Aviation Museum and Bogmalo beach, then the 4 pm pottery course at Carpe Diem in Majorda. Sunday: an early swim at Benaulim, a visit to the old houses of Chandor or Loutolim, and an evening match at Fatorda if FC Goa are at home.
Practical notes for parents
- Heat. From October to December the sun is strong between 11 am and 4 pm. Plan indoor stops for those hours.
- Transport. Taxis rarely carry child seats. If you need one, bring it or ask your hotel to arrange a car.
- Scooters. Do not carry small children on rented scooters on the highways. Use them, if at all, on village roads.
- Toilets and changing. Museums and malls are your best bet. Carry your own supplies to forts and beaches.
- Mondays. The Naval Aviation Museum, the Museum of Goa and Bondla zoo are closed.
