Loutolim and Chandor are the Salcete villages to visit for Goa's grand old houses. In Loutolim, Big Foot (Ancestral Goa) is a long-running recreation of an old Goan village for families and school groups, with the Casa Araujo Alvares mansion across the road and the Figueiredo house a short drive away. Chandor, once the ancient capital Chandrapur, has the Menezes Braganza house on the church square, shown to visitors by the families who still live there, and marks the Feast of the Three Kings on 6 January with three boys on horseback. Heritage trails cover both villages. They are about 10 km from Margao; hire a taxi or scooter.
